House Deputy Speaker and District I Representative Beng Climaco yesterday said the visit of Queen Sofia of Spain to Zamboanga City yesterday was a welcome development.

She said the Spanish government has been extensively helping communities in the city through non-government organizations here in Zamboanga through self-sustaining programs in identified communities.

“The partnership between these two countries had a long history. The fruit of this partnership are the various initiatives that they have generously extended to us”, the lady solon said stressing “As in my capacity as 1st District Representative, our office has likewise partnered with Instituto de Cervantes to propagate the Spanish language as something very dear to our creole the Chabacano, so this visit has only strengthened all these initiatives.”

The queen visited various communities here in the city that were recipients of Her Government’s assistance.

Zamboanga City is only one of the three areas visited by the Queen during her stay in the Philippines—the two others are Manila and Albay.
