I wish to continue serving the people of Zamboanga City in the same spirit that guides you fellow Rotarians and that is why Erbie Fabian is running for mayor of the city in 2013.

Thus was the declaration made by District 2 Rep. Erbie A. Fabian during last Wednesday evening’s 24th Induction ceremony of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City Central at Astoria Hotel.

The event was headlined with the presence of top Rotary leaders including Assistant District Governor Edwin To, the event’s keynote Speaker, Past District Governors Charlie Reith, James Makasiar, Boloy Mendoza, current and past presidents of the Rotary and guests to include 530th Air Base Wing Commandant, the newly minted Brig. Gen. Ernesto Magnaye, Col. Wages and officials of the Zamboanga City Water District headed by Chairperson Dra. Mila Fernandez and Past President Edwin Makasiar, partners of Rotary Central in several projects and other guests.

Fabian’s inspirational message was delivered to the club of which he was a founding member and past president the driving motto of Rotary of which is service to the people has flickered in his heart for more than 20 years that he has served the city in various capacity as city councilor, vice mayor, mayor and congressman.

He added the feeling is burning even stronger now that he sees a lot still needs to be done in Zamboanga.

He exhorted the Rotarians to continue on with their crusade of helping others in the city and hopes he can be a part of the cause in the near future in bringing hope to the people who need a helping hand.

He saluted the past leadership of the club for the outstanding accomplishments and encouraged the new leadership to be just as energetic in pursuing various projects and programs to benefit the masses in the city.

Even as I have taken temporary leave from Rotary due to the demands of my office, the Rotary spirit which I imbibed while with you in the years before has guided me to become a responsive public servant to the people of this city.

For that I will be forever grateful to my Rotary years and may the movement of service to the people grow even stronger in the years ahead, the 2nd district solon extolled.

Fabian added, he will make his formal announcement on July 31, feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
