Mayor Celso Lobregat has reaffirmed his support to the barangays as he vowed to continue with the massive and sustained implementation of projects and programs for the general welfare of the constituents.

The mayor reiterated his unequivocal support to the 98 barangays during a program Friday afternoon in front of City Hall where he turned over 4x4 pick up vehicles to 15 barangays, the latest recipients to the ongoing distribution of vehicles under the City Government-initiated program dubbed Community, Environment, Livelihood, Safety and Order in the villages.

Since fixing the City’s finances in 2007, Mayor Lobregat said his administration has embarked on enormous programs and projects such as infrastructures and other programs intended to accelerate delivery of services and ultimately to spur growth and development.

The distribution of the vehicles to the barangays is one of the continuous programs that is aimed to help enhance public service in the barangays.

While the 90 mainland barangays will receive 4x4 pickup trucks, the 8 island barangays will receive a multicab and pumpboat each, he said.

The distribution schedule is being done by batches. Recipients of Friday’s distribution were barangays Bolong, Bunguiao, Cabaluay, Cacao, Calabasa, Guisao, Latuan, Lumbangan, Mercedes, Quiniput, Talabaan, Talon-Talon, Tugbungan, Victoria and Zambowood bringing the total of mainland barangays that have already received their pick-up vehicles at 29. Previous recipients were were (first batch) barangays Taluksangay, Sibulao, Tolosa, Tagasilay, Mampang, Mangusu and Lansones; (second batch) Vitali, Licomo, Tictapul and Tigbalabag; (4th batch) Dulian-Upper Bunguiao, Boalan and Culianan.

Under Lobregat’s leadership, the City Government has literally transformed barangays into vibrant communities and growth centers with enormous infrastructures that include barangays halls, health centers, covered courts, fire and police stations, water systems, farm to market roads and other facilities that accelerate delivery of services. The vehicles being distributed to each of the barangays is an add-on project that will help further improve service delivery.

Mayor Lobregat said the distribution of vehicles is an all-encompassing program for it covers the improvement of delivery of service to the community, protection and preservation of the environment, implementation of livelihood activities and  maintenance of security and order.

He vowed that the support and assistance to the barangays is unremitting and will continue for as long as he is mayor of Zamboanga.

Barangay officials, meanwhile, have expressed appreciation and gratitude to the Lobregat administration as they declared their all-out support to the programs and projects of the city.
