Education supervisors from all over Zamboanga Peninsula on Thursday were unanimous in their expression of awe and admiration to Zamboanga City Government’s massive and sustained efforts in education.

Speaking after Mayor Celso Lobregat made an extensive power point presentation on the city’s investments in education, Catherine Torrecampo, newly-elected Vice President of the Philippine Association of Education Supervisors (PAES)-Region 9 said no other local government unit in the country has given such enormous assistance to public education as the Zamboanga City government.

“Sana katulad ng Zamboanga City ang lahat ng mga LGUs para maitaas ang antas ng edukasyon sa rehiyon”, Torrecampo, who is from Dipolog City said. “I am sure all of you, like me, are awed and amazed by what we have seen in the presentation of Mayor Lobregat”.

The PAES -Region 9 headed by Dr. Maybelle Tee, who is also PAES National Vice President for Mindanao, gathered for its 1st Convention, July 12 at the Cecille’s Catering Services in Tumaga. The group accorded Mayor Lobregat the privilege to make the presentation during the so-called “Mayor’s Hour” with the hope that it will help re-enforce education as a means of hope for the rising generations.

Torrecampo, who was assigned in Zamboanga City as supervisor a few years ago, said she can vouch for Mayor Lobregat’s exemplary initiatives on education in terms of the school buildings and other infrastructures constructed by the city government in public elementary and secondary schools in the city.

“Ang ganda-ganda ng mga buildings na pinapatayo  niya”, the Dipolog education supervisor declared, as she expressed confidence that such extent of support from the city government will redound to the benefit of young students.

Mayor Lobregat’s presentation centered on the city’s investment in education which has already reached P940 million from 2007 to May 2012. The investments include the construction and repair of school buildings, fences, comfort rooms, stages, covered courts and other education-related projects in public schools.

Also present during the event were Councilors Rudy Lim and VP Elago, Western Mindanao State University President Dr. Milabel Ho, WMSU VP for Research and Extension Studies Dr. Bert Torres, City High-Main principal Felisa Munar and numerous others. — Sheila Covarrubias
