Philippine Army (PA) spokesperson Major Harold Cabunoc on Friday said that Special Forces units are now tracking the group behind the ambush of rubber plantation workers in Sumipsip, Basilan Wednesday morning.

The ambush resulted in the killing of six persons and the wounding of 22 others, mostly workers of the Tumajubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Development Council.

Cabunoc said that operatives from 4th Special Forces Battalion, 4th Special Reconnaissance Battalion, and 4th Division Reconnaissance Company and elements from the local police were scouring the jungles of Sumisip, Basilan and chase the criminals.

“We will ensure that the innocent and hapless civilians will be protected from these notorious criminals who insist to disturb the peace,” Cabunoc said.
As this developed, Cabunoc said the military would maintain its presence in the Basilan Circumferential Road project as its completion would benefits thousands of people.

He also said that soldiers and policemen were securing registration centers all over Basilan for the general voters registration prior to next year’s elections.
