The Regional Council on Disability Affairs (RCDA)  is set to observe the 34th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week on July 17-23 this year,

The observance is provided for under Proclamation No. 361 (2000), as amended by Administrative Order No. 35 (2002), with the theme “Mainstreaming Persons with Disabilities in Economic Development.” It was conceptualized to contribute and promote the full employment of persons with disabilities and to tackle barriers and gaps, facilitate stakeholders’ cooperation, develop innovative approaches and support human rights-based initiatives for the economic development of persons with disabilities.

The RCDA-9, composed of DSWD, DOLE, DepEd, DOH, PIA, DILG and the PWD sector, headed by Teddy M. Kahil, a fully blind and assisted by Henry Salac, media coordinator for the PWD programs and services, announced that the weeklong activities will formally start today, July 16, by advocating to the public the awareness of NDPR Week during flag ceremonies in all national and local government agencies, press releases to all media outlets and the hanging of streamers. 

On July 17, the celebration formally starts with a motorcade from the Pettit Barracks to the Zamboanga City High School (Main) with thousands of participants expected to join together with Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, city and Senator Ed Angara. At the ZCHS (Main), the opening program will be at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum. It will be followed by free vaccines against flu and pneumonia for PWDs (18 years old and above) and a media forum/press conference with interpreter for hearing impaired, focusing on the theme; “Mainstreaming Persons with Disabilities in Economic Development.” 
More activities will follow as it is a weeklong activities.
