The officials of Alicia municipality, Zamboanga Sibugay, welcomed the dialogue and inter-change of ideas on rubber latex production held by  the Rommel A. Jalosjos Tripartite Rubber Expansion & Enhancement program ( RAJTREE) last Monday.

Mayor  Richard V.  Tiu and Vice Mayor Juno Roa.and the barangay chairmen participated in the dialogue.

Gov. Jalosjos told the told the barangay  Chairmen that RAJTREE will support other agricultural crops for food sustainance of each municipality in the province.

“It is a  gift for you, for your children’s future and their education. As the forefront and rubber capital of the country, RAJTREE is life of living. It will shape the province to progress and prosperity in the future because there is a shortage of supply of rubber latex in the world market. We can plant and we do it and produce it. I want you to do a top quality of rubber latex thru RAJTREE. The big market for these are Toyota, 3D and others,” Jalosjos said.
Councilor Lodigario Garcia thanked Jalosjos for enlightening the farmers and making Alicia a part of RAJTREE.

Garcia said that RAJTREE will light them with bright future.

Mayor Tiu said that farmers are now focusing on the production of rubber treesbecause it is in demand and a big support to other socio-economic activities.

”We have sufficient food in the municipality. People are engaged in coconut production, rice farming, calamansi, seaweeds and fishing, fishponds with bangus, prawns, crabs and lapu-lapu (grouper). Our One Stop product is abaca and we supply fish to Iligan and Cagayan de Oro City,” Tiu informed.

Tiu also disclosed that Alicia has a total of 27 barangays — 20 coastal barangas one island barangay and six mainland barangays. Total population of the municipality is 33,420 as of this year. There are Smart and Globe cellsites in the municipality and it has six patrol boats for bantay dagat. — Allen Abastillas
