Mayor Celso Lobregat has commended local police authorities for the recent arrest of one of the most sought after persons for alleged involvement in the different incidents in the city saying that it sends a strong message that crimes do pay.
“This goes to show that in the end the long arm of the law will catch up with you”, the mayor told reporters covering City Hall. “I have always said that the only way to lessen criminality is to get the criminals”.
Police operatives in coordination with the military over the weekend arrested Baniser “Bani” Amping, who is facing a string of cases for alleged involvement in numerous crime incidents specifically those that happened in the Talon-talon and Mampang areas.
He called on the authorities to ensure that justice is served and that suspects in different cases are given the due process.
Mayor Lobregat, who is chair of the City’s Crisis Management Committee, is closely coordinating with the police and military authorities for the maintenance of public safety.
Just last Thursday afternoon, the mayor met with top officials of the police and military including barangay officials from coastal areas in the east coast and representatives from other concerned agencies to discuss issues such as piracy affecting the area.
The mayor has urged the authorities to strengthen efforts in curbing lawlessness in the area in coordination with the civilian forces and volunteers as well as barangay officials. -- Sheila Covarrubias
