Mayor Celso Lobregat has reaffirmed his support for the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC)  as the institution marked its 107th Foundation Anniversary last Friday, July 20, with the theme “ZCSPC:  Social Responsibility in Building Leaders for Addressing Environmental Concern.”

“It is my hope. It is my fervent wish that the next mayor will have the same love and the same care as my mother had for Zamboanga and I also have for Zamboanga. I only hope and I wish that the next mayor whom you will choose will make sure that children in Zamboanga are protected,” Lobregat told the ZCSPC administration officials headed by their President Dr. Nora Ponce, deans, faculty and students.

Lobregat is the father of the ZCSPC as he was responsible for the institution’s conversion to its present status (a state college) from the former Zamboanga Polytechnic College by virtue of the bill he filed in congress when he was a congressman from 1998 to 2004.

Last Friday, the College celebrated its 107th founding anniversary, having been established in 1905 as the Zamboanga School of Arts and Trade, and 11th year as a state college.

“My wish as I end my third term is that the next mayor will have the same vision that my mother and I have for Zamboanga. I hope and pray that Zamboangueños will not be mesmerized by money, that Zamboangueños will not sell their votes,” Lobregat reiterated in his message, stressing that the ZCSPC and the city government have been working closely for the sake of quality education.

To recall, the city government has constructed a school building and perimeter fence at the ZCSPC and tied up for the reproduction of armchairs worth about P7 million to be distributed to the different public schools in the city, and soon the city will construct aP20 million worth of modern multi-purpose building at the school. — Vic Larato
