A security escort of a fishing boat was arrested for violation of the Omnibus Election Code (Comelec gunban) in Culianan at dawn last Monday.

Nabbed was Renante Bolante y De Andres, 37, married, a security escort of Marlyn M1 fishing boat.

Confiscated from his possession was a .45 caliber pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.

A police report disclosed that policemen were manning a checkpoint along Lobregat Highway in Culianan around 3 a.m. when a motorcycle driven by Gary Estrada, 19, with backriders Raymon Dabasol and Bolante, arrived and were stopped for inspection.

Policemen called their attention when they saw Bolante wearing a military uniform.

Police asked Bolante if he is a member of the AFP and he answered no, prompting the lawmen to ask him to take off the uniform. When he took off the soldier cloth, police spotted a .45 caliber pistol tucked in his waist.

Bolante presented documents for possession of the handgun,  but he could not produce any Comelec exemption.

Bolante was taken to the police station and was detained pending the filing of charges against him in court. – Dan Toribio Jr.
