“I have been to Zamboanga City several times but I continue to be amazed at the tremendous progress that I see, every time I return, something new has been added to the landscape of Zamboanga”.

Thus declared Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma, Jr. of the Presidential Communications and Operations Office (PCOO) during his visit to Zamboanga City, July 27, where he got the chance to go around town and see some attractions and other developments implemented by the present administration of Mayor Celso Lobregat.

Sec. Coloma remembered that the area where the picturesque Paseo del Mar stands, was a total reverse when he came here several years ago. “It seemed to be in disarray, it was a picture of poverty, there were still informal dwellers in the area and now the natural beauty of the City has emerged”.

“I am really upbeat and I am impressed about the progress of Zamboanga City,” the Cabinet official stated in an interview after watching the 20-minute show at the Paseo del Mar musically gyrating dancing fountain Friday night.

He conceded that Paseo del Mar has all the potentials of being a world-class tourist attraction. “I think it has all the potentials of being a world class tourist attraction. I was telling Mayor Celso [Lobregat] that Zamboanga City should continue to be promoted aggressively especially with the branding of the Latin City of Asia, and it will attract legions of tourists from all over the world”.

Secretary Coloma commended Mayor Lobregat and other city leaders for initiating the new branding “Asia’s Latin City” which he said  is a result of discovering something unique and distinctive about the city.

“This reflects the strength of character and the virtues of the people, that is the way that we bring out the best of who we are and what we are”, the Malacanang official stressed.

Sec. Coloma was in the city to keynote the 31st Induction Ceremony of the Zamboanga Press Club, Inc. led by president Felipe Abuy III, Friday evening.
