An employee of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was shot dead by one of two gunmen near his residence at NIA Compound, Tumaga yesterday morning.

Yesterday’s shooting came two days after two young traders were gunned down in broad daylight in Sta. Maria Thursday last week.

Both cases became part of the spate of gunslayings that continued since January and has alarmed residents.

Sta. Maria Police Station commander Chief Insp. Larry Domingo identified the fatality as Rogelio Miang, 50, married.
Police said that Miang sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and was taken to a private hospital where he expired more than an hour while being treated.

Domingo disclosed that Miang had just alighted from a tricycle outside his residence when two men aboard a motorcycle appeared and the backrider stepped down and followed him while he was walking  towards their house around 10:15 a.m. At distance, the gunman pulled the trigger on Miang. He and his companion sped towards unknown direction after seeing Miang fell on the ground.

Domingo did not divulge other details of the killing saying that they were still going over the case thoroughly.

Sources said the gunman used a .45 caliber pistol with a silencer in shooting Miang. — Dan Toribio Jr.
