After 29 days in captivity, Cecilia Sosas, head teacher of the Baas Elementary School in Lamitan municipality, Basilan was released by kidnappers around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the boundary of Barangay Lagayas and Kabancalan Tipo-Tipo.
Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar who arrived Tuesday morning from Manila commended Vice Gov. Al-Rasheed Sakkalahul, Basilan Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo, Special Operation Task Force Commander Col. Nicanor Dolojan and local leaders for their efforts exerted for the safe release of Sosas.
Gov. Akbar said that what is important is that she (Sosas) is alive and well.
The governor told Sosas that she was very worried and concern on her welfare while she was still under captivity.
Akbar told Sosas that when she was in Manila, she talked to top officials for her safe release and also for the release of another kidnap victim Rose Baranda who is still being kept by her captors.
Sosas was abducted on November 15 inside the Baas Elementary School campus.
Sosas told Akbar that she was taken to a pumpboat that travelled for almost one hour before she was transferred to two other groups in separate occasions.
She recalled that they walked night after night and was hidden by her captors at day time in a mountainous area. She expressed gratitude to officials for her safe release.
Sosas was presented yesterday afternoon by Vice. Gov. Sakkalahul to the Education Secretary Armin Luistro in Manila.
Basilan Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo told newsmen that they will file charges against the kidnappers in coordination with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.       Gonzalodo said they have some names of the kidnappers but withheld them so as not to jeopardize ongoing investigation. -- Allen Abastillas
