Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday inspired the 108 newly promoted members of the Zamboanga City Police Office, saying their promotion speaks of their good accomplishments in keeping Zamboanga and its people safe.

Lobregat made the commendation during the mass oath-taking ceremony for Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs) and pinning of ranks ceremonies yesterday morning at the ZCPO ground.

“But with your promotion comes great responsibility to work even much harder in the fight against criminality,” the chief executive said as he took pride in an article published in a national broadsheet, featuring the renovated Plaza Pershing.

Lobregat said the article tells about the good, the positive and the beautiful about the historic plaza and the city as a whole. “Plaza Pershing was used to be a hub for prostituted women, rugby boys and where criminals meet, but that image is long gone. Plaza Pershing is safe which was unthinkable before,” he quoted the article in part.

He said the police play an important role in making the city safe and in bringing about the good of Zamboanga.

Promoted to the next higher ranks were 11 SPO1 to SPO2, 4 SPO2 to SPO3, 19 PO2 to PO3, 11 PO3 to SPO1 and 63 PO1 to PO2. — Vic Larato
