Three hours and thirty minutes before the Comelec  gun ban ended, operatives of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company under Supt. William Gadayan arrested a retired marine soldier inside a beerhouse along Don Toribio St., Tetuan last Tuesday night.

Gadayan identified the suspect as MSgt. (ret.) Ramon Ybera, married, of Putik, this city. Confiscated from his possession was a handgun loaded with rounds of ammunition.

Gadayan disclosed that Ybera was at the Happy Night beer joint around 8:30 p.m. reportedly drunk and abusive.

Report said that Ybera was forcing a guest relation officer (GRO) to sing in the videoke machine. The GRO refused to do so prompting Ybera to threaten her while displaying his handgun tucked in his waist.

The GRO reported the incident to policemen detailed in the area resulting in the arrest of Ybera.

When confronted, Ybera could not present documents or a Comelec permit to allow him to carry the gun.

Ybera was brought to the ZCPSC office for further investigation and was later detained at the central police station for the filing of charges against him. — Dan Toribio Jr.
