House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Rep. Beng Climaco consistently pursues efforts to help alleviate the plight of the constituents not only through the implementation of diverse infrastructure projects and provision of basic services but also through distribution of wheel chairs to indigents.

Implemented in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the wheel chair distribution program has so far benefit 20 indigents from different barangays this year.

The recipients include old-aged individuals and could no longer walk, paraplegics or those who had been unable to walk since birth and seriously ill and needs to wheeled for mobility.

“It took a while before we were able to get the wheelchairs, since there are government procedures that need to be followed. We thank the DSWD for helping us facilitate the release of the wheelchairs so we can distribute them to those who requested for it,” the District 1 congresswoman explained.

She stressed that “we would have wanted to give as much as we can, but because of the financial limitations that we have we are able to accommodate those who came first to our office for their requests”, but nevertheless, she vowed to exert all efforts in trying to accommodate other requests for those who also need wheelchairs.

Along with other initiatives, Cong. Climaco also supported the renovation of VISTA Spa, a spa under the DSWD that is run by visually impaired members under the PWD sector.

“The help we give them is but a small contribution to the empowerment they feel. We hope we can give more because they are inspiration to us,” she added.

Promoting the rights and welfare of differently-abled individuals has been very much a part of the advocacy of the lady solon even before she became a part of the House of Congress. — Marvin Segura
