A fragmentation grenade exploded at a Catholic Church in Jolo, Sulu, a military official disclosed yesterday.

Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) spokesman Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang disclosed the incident took place around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Mount Carmel Cathedral Church located along Gen. Arolas Jolo, Sulu.

Cabangbang said nobody was either reported killed or injured during the explosion which damaged the roof of the church.

Investigation showed the fragmentation grenade was tossed on the roof by a still unidentified man.

Recovered from the explosion site were the grenade’s safety lever and several pieces of shrapnel, he said.

Security measures have been tightened at the premises of the church.

He said no group or individual has claimed responsibility over the grenade attack as police conduct thorough investigation.
