Zamboagueños have a reason to be proud of!

Team Zamboanga City composed of our very own local basketball players will defend its championship crown in the much-anticipated National Basketball Association (NBA) 3 on 3 that will be held in the Mall of Asia in Manila on August 17-19, 2012.

Talented players Rolando “Junie” Navarro Jr., and Alvin Munio of Ateneo de Zamboanga University; David Sebastian of Universidad de Zamboanga; and Jomie Alvarez of Southern City Colleges will once again represent Asia’s Latin City as last year’s defending champion in the prestigious basketball tournament, which is being participated in by more than 112 teams all over the country.

According to Navarro, their team has been on hard court practice for many months now in preparation for this tournament.

“We have prepared so much to defend the championship crown. We fully well know that the different teams coming from the different parts of the country especially those from the National Capital Region are also eager to bag the championship and so we expect that each and every ball game will be tough,” Navarro, who also played in the Liga ng Pilipinas, told reporters in an interview.

He said that with the support that they are getting from the local basketball players and fans and also from the local administration of Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, they are confident that that they will be able to successfully defend the title.

The NBA 3 on 3 is considered as one of the biggest tournaments in the country and much- awaited especially by the Filipino basketball fanatics since their NBA idols not only attend but also participate in the mentioned event. Adding up to this event is the possible opportunity for Filipino players of being selected to be part of the global pool from which 2012 NBA Champion and MVP Lebron James and NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant will get to participate.

“Once again, this a dream come true for us to play and defend the crown for our beloved city. Indeed, we were able to put Zamboanga City on the map after we beat formidable teams from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,” Navarro stressed.

Meanwhile, Team Zamboanga City is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Mayor Celso L. Lobregat tomorrow morning at City Hall.
