The City Election Officer of Isabela City, Basilan was shot to death yesterday afternoon by motorcycle-riding gunmen.

A police report disclosed that Daryl Kinazo was on his way home to Lamitan City aboard a motorcycle when gunmen aboard another motorcycle followed and opened fire on him along the highway in Barangay Baluno at past 3 p.m.

It was learned that Kinazo was going home after supervising the registration of persons with disability (PWDs) in Isabela City when the incident took place.
August 11 was designated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as special registration day for PWDs for them to be given good participation in the next political exercise.

Kinazo was rushed to the hospital where doctors had earlier described him as in critical condition. He expired hours later.

The shooting is the second registration and pre-election related case in Basilan, where some politicians were reported to be trying to manipulate the registration of voters in favor of their supporters.

Investigators were looking on the past election in Isabela as the motive behind the shooting.

The first violent incident happened last July 16 in which a boat carrying people who were going to the island municipality of Tabuan Lasa to register as voters was sprayed with gunfire killing 1 and wound 2.
