A 59-year-old man was shot and critically wounded by one of two suspected motorcycle thieves along San Jose Gusu before midnight last Saturday .

The victim was identified as Lucilo Albento y Napalcruz, married, of Baliwasan Grande. He sustained a bullet wound in the back and was taken to a private hospital where he was declared in critical condition.

Initial investigation showed that Albento was driving his motorcycle along San Jose Gusu when two men aboard another motorcycle chased him and the backrider shot him while they were in motion near the Zamcelco substation, .

When Albento fell on the ground, the assailants stopped and one of them alighted from their motorcycle and approached the victim to take his motorcycle, but the duty militiaman at the Zamcelco sub-station went out to check the incident, prompting the assailants to leave the place.Helpful residents rushed the victim to the hospital.
