Lobregat unveils P4.3-M worth of bridges in Vitali PDF Print E-mail

Mayor Celso Lobregat on Tuesday  unveiled three footbridges made of steel and cement amounting to P4.3 million in three separate sitios in Barangay Vitali, bringing to more than P131 million worth of various projects that the city government under his administration has implemented in Vitali alone.

Undertaken by EMTR Construction, the three footbridges costing the city government a total amount of P4,332,513.46 were unveiled one after the other at sitios Tamion, SPDA and Calle Posporo in Tindalo, all far-flung areas about 3-4 kms outside the center of Vitali. 

Despite the distance, the roads leading to the three footbridges are well-paved and cemented, cutting through rice fields and slopes, to the astonishment of the many guests most of them had gone to the area for first time.

In his message, Lobregat said his administration has implemented a total of P131 million worth of projects in Vitali over the last six years. Of the amount, P11.6 million in 2007, P8.6 million in 2008, P20.5 million in 2009, P27.8 million in 2010, P10.9 million in 2011 and P22.7 million in 2012, excluding the P2 million box culvert and slope protection projects yet to be implemented this year.

Prior to the inauguration of the three footbridges, Lobregat together with officials of the Zamboanga City Water District inaugurated the P31.8-million Vitali
Water System at Sitio Tamion, about 3.12 kms from the highway.

Three years on the making, the water system is a joint project of the city government with P5.3 million counterpart, P2.4 million congressional fund of District 2 Rep. Erbie Fabian and P24 million from the ZCWD.

It is expected to benefit 441 household with an estimated 2,203 persons, especially those living in Tamion and nearby sitios.

Present during the series of blessing and inauguration rites were Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, Councilors Nonong Guingona, Rudy Lim, Percival Ramos, Mike Alavar, Rommel Agan, Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar, together with the entire officials of the ZCWD headed by Board Chairperson Mila Fernandez and General Manager Chito Vasquez, barangay officials of Vitali led by Chairman Jose Alavar, and other officials from nearby villages.

Also present were Dr. Milabel E. Ho, president of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Dr. Milavel Nazario, president of the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST), and Dr. Nora Ponce, president of the Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College (ZCSPC). The Philippine Red Cross Zamboanga City Chapter Board members headed by local Administrator Vic Liozo also attended the unveiling rites. — Vic Larato
