Mayor Cherrylyn Santos-Akbar is expected to lead the Liberal Party (LP) in Isabela City, Basilan after she took her oath as official member before the ruling party’s national leaders including Senator Franklin Drilon and DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Akbar was a former Lakas-NUCD party member and has decided to join the administration party of President Aquino recently upon invitation of some national figures.

“It is not by joining alone but rather the benefits that we can get from the national government for my people in Isabela. I want my small city to improve and by supporting President Aquino’s administration, for sure, more benefits will come to Isabela,” Mayor Akbar said.

Aside from Akbar, almost all top elective officials in Basilan including the lady governor have officially joined LP. ARMM OIC Governor Mujiv Hataman plays an important role in enticing Basilan leaders to support Aquino’s administration.

Following the equity of the incumbent, Mayor Akbar is expected to lead LP in Isabela City as the local chair, Gov. Jum Akbar as the Provincial Chair and Congressman Jim Hataman as the district chairman.

In support to Aquino’s priority programs, the lady mayor of Isabela vowed to increase the number of Philhealth beneficiaries by appropriating more funds for that purpose.

At present, the city government is in the stage of completing the multi-million wet market and the concreting of the farm-to-market roads.

Mayor Akbar also vowed to completely light the main streets within the city limits as she believes that it would be a great help in deterring crimes.

The putting up of CCTV or surveillance camera in strategic places is also one of the top priorities of the Akbar administration.

“I want to have a little of everything for my city. I want to prove to my detractors that their mayor is doing all the best that she can just to keep the city safe from any eventualities despite our meager funds. While it is true that that there are still scrupulous individuals trying to disturb the tranquility of the place, I assure my people that my administration is doing everything to protect them,” Akbar said.— Jimmy Villaflores
