The 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion is now deployed in Basilan in line with the government’s efforts to protect the peace and development gains there.

Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, said that unit arrived on Basilan only last Tuesday.

A battalion is usually between 500 and 1,000 men and officers.

He added the formation was originally based in Bicol and was transferred to Basilan for peace and security work.

Cabangbang stressed the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion will be joining the 4th and 32nd Scout Ranger Battalions alongside the 4th Special Forces Reconnaissance Battalion.

He added these units are deployed all over Basilan to ensure that lawless groups will not hamper various ongoing development work in the province.
