Government troops clashed with New People’s Army guerrillas in Barangay Palalian, Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay last Friday afternoon.

Report said that troops of the 14th Scout Rangers responded to an information from some residents about the presence of armed in the area around 4:30 p.m.

The clash lasted for more than an hour resulting in the wounding of some of the NPA guerrillas.

Around 5:30 p.m., government troops cleared the encounter site after the rebels withdrew bringing their slain comrades.

Soldiers recovered a notebook, magazines of an AK47 rifle with bullets, 16 rounds of ammunition for 7.62 mm, 13 rounds of ammunition of Garand rifle, medical items, subversive documents and other personal belongings of the rebels.

No casualty was reported on the government side. The rebels were believed to have suffered casualties based on the blood stainsfound in the encounter site. — Dan Toribio Jr.
