Defending champion Team Zamboanga leads in NBA 3 on 3 PDF Print E-mail

Team Zamboanga, the defending champion in the prestigious NBA 3 on 3 Tournament, yesterday defeated the AMA Quezon City in a crucial ball game by only one point.

Zamboangueño players led by Rolando “Junie” Navarro Jr., said it was a tight ball game right from the very start but fortunately they emerged victorious with a score of 17-16.

“It was hard court action but we are happy that in the end we were able to pull a win. We must admit that the AMA players gave us a hard time during the entire ball game,” Navarro stressed in an interview.

Team Zamboanga now leads the series after bagging two wins and no loss in the NBA 3 on 3, which is being held in the Mall of Asia in Manila.

During their first game the other day, Zamboangueno players routed Paranaque with a high score of 15 against 7.

“We hope and pray that in the end we will be able to retain the championship. We are also happy for all the moral support from our fans and supporters,” Navarro, who was once an RP Youth Player, stressed.

He disclosed that their succeeding games will be much tougher but he assured that Team Zamboanga’s morale is high and they are optimistic that they can again bag the championship.

Aside from Navarro, the local cagers playing for the city are Alvin Munio of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, David Sebastian of Universidad de Zamboanga and Jomie Alvarez of Southern City Colleges.

Team Zamboanga also expressed gratitude to officials who are always supportive of them Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, Councilors Rommel Agan, Percival Ramos, and Sibugay Gov. Rommel Jalosjos.

The NBA 3 on 3 is considered as one of the biggest tournaments in the country and much- awaited especially by the Filipino basketball fanatics since their NBA idols not only attend but also participate in the mentioned event. Adding up to this event is the possible opportunity for Filipino players of being selected to be part of the global pool from which 2012 NBA Champion and MVP Lebron James and NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant will get to participate.- — Jemuel E.
