House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Representative Beng Climaco enjoins the public to attend a special mass today, August 21 at 5pm at the Ateneo de Zamboanga Chapel in La Purisima Street in commemoration of the 29th death anniversary of Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and for the safe recovery of Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Today marks the 29th death anniversary of the late senator Aquino, father of President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. The senator’s death, which remains unsolved up to this day, inspired people to protest against the Marcos dictatorship leading to the People Power revolution that catapulted his widow, Cory Aquino to the presidency in 1987.

On the other hand, the mass today is also offered for the safety of Sec. Robredo, who, along with two others, remains missing after the plane ferrying them from Cebu to Naga City crashed off the waters of Masbate Saturday (August 18) afternoon due to engine trouble.  Search and rescue operations continue without let up with the use of all resources available.

Cong. Climaco said the people of Zamboanga continues to pray for Robredo’s safety and swift recovery.

“We would like to thank Sec. Robredo for the hard work he has done and there would have been more activities [with the help and support of Sec. Robredo],” the congresswoman said.

She stressed that the Liberal Party, which she heads in Zamboanga, is praying hard for such a leader who has given his best service to the country.
