A suspected drug pusher was killed while a policeman was wounded in a shabu-buy bust operation that ended in an exchange of gunfire at Aquino Drive, Baliwasan last Monday night.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. James Mejia identified the fatality as Alani Jumadil y Abuji, married. Wounded was PO1 Edgar Deles of the Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force (AIDSOTF) of the City Police Office.

Deles was hit in the body and was taken to a hospital while Jumadil sustained bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.

A police report disclosed that AIDSOTF operatives led by Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon were conducting a buy-bust operation with Jumadil and his companion,  a certain Jimmy, as the target around 7:30 p.m. when the exchange of gunfire took place.

The report said that after marked money and a shabu pack changed hands,  Deles made a move to handcuff Jumadil, who suddenly pulled out a .22 cal. revolver and shot him in the body.

At this point, a police back-up team retaliated and shot Jumadil.

Jimmy reportedly escaped amid the exchange of gunfire.

Deles was rushed to a private hospital and was later declared out of danger by physicians.

Police investigators led by Sr. Insp. Arlan Delumpines recovered five spent shells of M16 rifle and Jumadil’s .22  cal. revolver with two bullets and one spent shell inside the cylinder at the scene.

The police also found a medium size sachet of shabu from Jumadil’s possession. — Dan Toribio Jr.
