“We’ll develop Sta Cruz island into a world-class tourist destination!’

Thus how Zamboanguenos for the Transformation of Zamboanga (ZTZ) founder Romeo “Nonong” Jalosjos exclaimed as he viewed this project to be his “baby” when he will be elected as mayor of Zamboanga City in next year’s election.city

The transformation of Sta Cruz Island into a world-class tourist destination has been part of the 25-point agenda that ZTZ announced in public several months ago, afterwhich the city government announced that it was holding a design contest apparently to counter ZTZ’s vision.

But Jalosjos maintained that marketing St Cruz Island as the “Pink  Island of Zamboanga” is the right branding as it will lure more domestic and foreign tourists .

It has been observed that all plans for the island by the local government are purely for lip service and no actual developments are made.

ZTZ  learned that sea transportation alone is not enough as there are only  three small boats that ferry picnickers to the island. Groups and individuals are discouraged because going to the island is so difficult including requesting for security escorts is causing much delays.

Part of ZTZ plan is to establish security system that will not require police escorts to board the boats every time a group or individual goes to the island.

ZTZ said Jalosjos expertise in resort development like his Dakak and Fantasyland in Dapitan City could help realize this plan of making Sta Cruz Island a world-class destination.
