In the face of kidnapping threats from lawless groups, Congressman Erbie Fabian yesterday asked Police Regional Office 9 Director Chief Supt. Elpidio de Asis to improve the security measures in the city.

This, after de Asis together with City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo paid a courtesy call on the congressman at his office yesterday.

Fabian requested the two top-ranking police officers to do everything under their power to enhance security capability of police personnel to preempt kidnapping for ransom group from carrying out their dastardly acts in the city especially in coastal barangays.

The congressman said the police should have better counter measures to be one step ahead of the lawless groups who are linked with the dreaded Abu Sayyaf.

“Continue with your visibility patrols, stationary and mobile checkpoints in strategic areas of the city,” Fabian said.

The congressman said he also fully supports the computerization program proposal of de Asis to make the police at par with its counterparts in the US and Europe.

“I commend de Asis for his program and vision to modernize the police to make them more reliable in the fight against criminality in the city,” Fabian said.

Fabian also called on the people to cooperate and strongly support the police to make them more potent in the fight against crime. -- NS
