A policewoman assigned at the City Police Office under Sr. Supt. James Mejia underwent a month-long School Resource Officer (SRO) training course in the United States recently.

SPO1 Marlyn Asdaom Galvez of the Police Community Relation Office along with two policemen from Jolo, Sulu and Basilan and female cop from Cotabato finished the SRO short training course in the cities of Reno, Kansas, Detroit, and Missouri.

Galvez and the three Filipino police officers joined American policemen in rendering duty in their designated fields gained more experience on how to apprehend criminals and other individuals violating the law.

The SRO program has been practicing in the US for 22 years and it is now under the plan of the Philippine National Police and the Department of Education.
If the plan of implementing the program will be realized, police officers who underwent SRO training will be assigned in the different public high schools in the country to guide the students in becoming good citizens and later become professionals and leaders in the future. The SRO officers will have a separate office in the school.

The SRO program is intended to be implemented in the country especially in Mindanao areas.

If everything will come true, Galvez and the three other police officers will also train other police personnel who will also be assigned in the different high schools.

In the US, the SRO program is aimed to improve the relationof the men in uniform with with the youth.

Galvez was among the police-non-commissioner-officers of the city police office who was recommended by former City Police Directors Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo and Chief Supt. Mario Yanga as she has a long experience in dealing in police community relation. — Dan Toribio Jr.
