Land Transportation Office-9 Director Aminola P. Abaton has advised motorcycle drivers and back riders in the region to wear the “J” type helmet, if they don’t have full-face helmet. type.

Abaton’s directive will be implemented until December 2012.

He said that the “J” type helmet covers the top head, back head and and both left and right side face of the motorcycle drivers and riders.

The use of the “J” type helmet is  in accordance to the provision of  Republic Act No. 10054 otherwise known as the “Helmet Law’. It is intended for the safety of the drivers and back riders.

Abaton also advised motorcyclists to follow the law because it is for their  own safety and protection. First offense for violation of the Helmet Law is P 1,500.  Second is  3,000, third is P 5,000. and fourth P 10,000 and consfiscation of the driver license.

LTO-9’s Law Enforcers Division Chief Olloy Jalaluddin also told motorcyclists that the wearing of helmet is for their protection and comfort. — Allen Abastillas
