Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar has tasked a town mayor to help locate and recover the kidnapped woman trader of Sumisip town in the said province.

Akbar gave the task to Al-Barka Mayor Mohammad Kabukisan after it was found out that Rose Baranda is being held captive in one of the barangays in that municipality.

Baranda, 59, was kidnapped by gunmen believed to be Abu Sayyaf bandits last November 2 in the border of Ungkaya Pukan and Tipo-Tipo municipalities.

Baranda was aboard a passenger jeepney traveling to Sumisip town coming from Lamitan municipality when she was kidnapped.

At the same time, Akbar ordered the mayors of Ungkaya Pukan and Tipo-Tipo towns to assist Kabukisan in locating and recovering Baranda “if and when their help are needed.”

“Dapat magtulungan sila dahil makalapit yong lugar nila,” Akbar said citing the possibility that Baranda will be transferred to the nearby municipalities.

Akbar warned the barangay officials in Al-Barka town not to coddle by allowing the kidnappers who are holding Baranda captive to stay in their barangay.

Akbar said corresponding charges will be filed against anyone who are found coddling the kidnappers of Baranda.

Akbar and Kabukisan met with the barangay officials of Al-Barka town and ordered them to help the mayor to locate and recover the hostage.
