Three Abu Sayyaf guerrillas were killed while four soldiers were wounded in a fresh clash at Sitio Baag, Barangay Guiong, Suimisip, Basilan last before noon Tuesday.

Report disclosed that a platoon of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion was conducting security operations in Barangay Guiong at past 11 a.m. when they encountered some 100 Abu Sayyaf Group guerrillas.

The exchange of gunfire lasted for several minutes leaving three dead on the Abu Sayyaf side and four wounded in the government side.
The ASG bandits withdrew towards the hinterland of Sumisip, according to the report.

It added that while the soldiers were engaging in an exchange of fire with the ASG men, they were supported by artillery fire and air assault that sent the bandits withdrawing deep into the jungles

Maj. Gen. Ricardo Rainier Cruz III, commander of the Army’s 1st (Tabak) Infantry Division, directed the unit commander to continue the operations against the ASG.

He encouraged the assistance from the provincial officials of Basilan to support the military and PNP’s campaign agaisnt lawless groups so that lasting peace and contunuing progress will realize in the island province.
