Mayor Celso Lobregat on Friday afternoon mobilized the city’s medical resources to assist victims of the ambush in Tumahubong, Sumisip, Basilan and were rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) for treatment.

Lobregat together with City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos proceeded to the ZCMC to look into the situation of the victims and to provide the necessary medical assistance.

Aside from shouldering medical expenses of the victims, Mayor Lobregat also provided cash assistance to each of the victims to help them in other needs.
The provision of medical assistance and other needs form part of the city’s social services.

Agbulos said he is closely coordinating with the ZCMC for other needs of the victims during their stay in the hospital.

The 10 victims rushed to the ZCMC Friday afternoon were among the 36 rubber tappers from the Tumahubong Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Integrated  Development Cooperative (TARBIDC) who were ambushed by gunmen believed to be Abu Sayyaf guerrillas early morning Friday. One was killed while the 35 others were wounded during the incident.

Reports show that the victims together with several others were on board two trucks and were on their way to the cooperative’s rubber plantation before 8am Friday when the gunmen rained them with bullets.
