“I vow to continue and make sports and youth development a priority in my future endeavors here in Zamboanga City.”

This was the promise made by 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian in a short keynote address last Sunday morning on the occasion of the opening of the  8th staging of the Inter-school  basketball tournament at the Summit Centre in Tetuan.

Fabian in his address extolled the participating teams and players to play their best always in the true spirit of the game and sportsmanship.

He paid tribute to the organizers of the league, FBZ and the SBP headed by Pete Alfaro Jr. and Atty. Maning Mamauag, along with Ed Galea and Nonoy Elopre and the steering committee for managing the games well for the past 7 years.

He also expressed elation over the fact that this year 16 teams are participating in the league including a guest team from nearby Basilan Province.

Fabian said basketball in the city has made major inroads as more and more locals are now playing well in intercollegiate and commercial leagues in Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao, a testament to the improving skills of locals who honed their crafts here.

He told players to play with pride, play for themselves, their schools that they represent and for the greater glory of God.

Fabian said sports will always be close to his heart and he vowed to support all sporting activities as he had in the past years.
