Some 400 Curuan residents mostly flood victims yesterday received each a plastic-bag of grocery items and a t-shirt from Congressman Erbie A. Fabian at the Curuan Cockpit.

Fabian, who is celebrating his 55th birthday today, together with Barangay Chairman Noel Perez and kagawads handed over the grocery items consisting of rice, sardines, noodles and t-shirt as an advance gift to the flood victims inside the jampacked cockpit.

Before the distribution, the grateful neighborhood coming from the sitios of Inner Presa, Presa Proper, Lower Presa, Poblacion, Diga, Betong and Amor con Amor Village rendered a birthday song to the congressman as a gesture of gratitude for the gifts that will at least help them cope with the financial burden caused by the recent flood.

To keep their spirit high, Rep. Fabian at random conducted a group singing contest to the amusement of the big crowd and offered P1,000 to each of the singing groups.

Some of the elderly women who were in tears commended the District 2 solon for his understanding, kindness and generosity in trying to alleviate their lives.

“Hinde gayot kame este ulvida. Maskin diutay pero ya sale gayot na dituyu Corazon. Muchas gracias gayot Y happy happy birthday Cong. May you have many more birthdays to come,” said one of the flood victims.

Earlier, the congressman led barangay leaders and city Agriculture office officials under Diosdado Palacat in the cutting of ribbon of the newly completed irrigation canal.

Palacat said the 183 linear meter irrigation canal was completed through the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Fabian amounting to P700,000.

He said the canal will help supply water to the different rice fields in the area which was also affected in the September 1, 2012 floods that hit the community.

The city agriculturist said his office will also provide free rice seedlings to the affected farmers. —  KS
