Another illegal logging site raided; gmelina lumber cuts seized PDF Print E-mail

Policemen along with personnel of the City Environment and Natural Resources raided another illegal logging site in Tolosa and confiscated several lumber cuts the other day.

A police report disclosed that Forestry Specialist Pilarito Montebon had received a message thru cell phone from Tolosa Kagawad Florante Mendoza about an ongoing illegal logging activity along a reforestation site.

Acting on the report, SPO4 Ruben Nadjirul, an environmental desk officer under the supervision of City Police Director Sr. Supt. James Mejia and CENRO East team under Montebon swooped down on the said site, but no one was seen cutting trees thereat.

During an ocular inspection, the team found a pile of gmelina logs hidden amid grasses along roadsides.

The lumber cuts were estimated as totalling 1,135 board feet with market value of P45,000.

After an inspection, the recovered lumber cuts were taken to the CENRO East in Lantawan, Pasonanca for safekeeping.

An investigation was still ongoing to determine the identities of the persons who cut the geelina trees in the area. – Dan Toribio Jr.
