Zambo delegates attend 1st Mindanao Urban Poor Summit PDF Print E-mail

More that 200 delegates from the different cities in Mindanao convened at the Grand Men Seng Hotel, Davao City to attend the 1st Mindanao Urban Poor Summit sponsored by the Presidential Commission for Urban Poor which last September 6, 2012 with the theme “Maralitang Tagalungsod Nagkakaisa at Kaagapay ng Lipunan tungo sa Maunlad na Pamayanan”.

The delegates are officers of urban poor organizations and federations, city mayors, city housing officers and city councilors who are the chairpersons of the Committee on Urban Poor.

The summit started with an Ecumenical Prayer given by Ms. Violeta Alejandro, president, Zamboanga City Homeowners and Peoples Organizations Federation. This was followed by the singing of the Pambansang Awit led by UPO Representative from Cagayan de Oro City.

Ms. Cynthia B. Resales PCUP Supervising Area Coordinator for Region 9,  introduced the participants. The welcome address was given by Hon. Sara J. Duterte, Mayor of Davao City. It was followed by a message, given by Hon. Angelina L. Katoh, PCUP, Commissioner for Mindanao.

The main objective of the summit is the presentation, deliberation and approval of area resolutions. There are 31 resolutions that were approved and passed by the delegates who call themselves Mindanao Urban Poor Alliance.

These are some of the resolutions that were passed to be presented on December 6, 2012 during the 1st National Urban Poor Summit in Manila:

1. Resolution No. 1 series 2012, a resolution respectfully requesting both Houses of Congress and Senate for the immediate passage of the Land Registration Act (LARA) Bill.

2. Resolution No. 3, requesting the Housing and Urban Poor Development Council (HUPCC) DENR, DOH, DPWH and all agencies concerned to adhere to Memorandum Circular No. 157 in the conduct of evaluation, complete staff work and approval of proposed proclamation for housing purposes.

3. Resolution No. 4 — recommending amendments to the PCUP guidelines and requirements for application of UPO accreditation.

4. Resolution No. 7 — recommending to the National Office of the Presidential Commission for Urban Poor to sustain financial support to institionalize its mandate of providing consultation and feed back mechanism for the Urban Poor Sector.

The Zamboanga City delegates were headed by Roy D.
