Carnapper escapee recaptured in Basilan PDF Print E-mail

A suspected carnapper who escaped from detention at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 9 (CIDG-9) headquarters at Camp Batalla, this city,  was recaptured by Isabela City policemen yesterday at the resident of his brother in Barangay Lanote.

The escapee identified as Kadaffy Umda y Askalani escaped with three other detainees from the detention cell of the CIDG-9 in the evening of December 25 at Camp Batalla.

Highway Patrol Group 9 Investigator PO3 Wilfredo Ator reported to Regional Chief Sr. Supt. Romeo R. Uy that Umda was arrested by HPG-9 operatives on December 14, 2010 around 11:45 a.m along Lobregat Highway in Sitio Catumbal. He was suspected to have carnapped a Honda motorcycle owned by a certain N. L Alpa. The motorcycle was stolen on December 10 and was reported to the Sinunuc Police Station. Umda was arrested by HPG-9 with the motorcycle in his possession.

When Umda escaped the CIDG-9 detention center on December 25, HPG9 operatives combed some areas where he was suspected to have hidden. They also coordinated with the Isabela City Police Station under by Supt. Rodrigo Maramo as the suspect is from Basilan.

National Director Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina commended the HPG-9 under the leadership pf Sr. Supt. Uy for the concerted efforts and coordination with other units of the Philippine National Police in arresting Umda.

Umda is now detained at the HPG-9 headquarters in Camp Batalla. -- Allen Abastillas
