Agricultural productivity gets a big boost in the east coast of the city as the regional office of the National Irrigation Administration and the Zambasulta Irrigation Management Office inaugurated this week three CIS or Communal Irrigation System.

The CIS projects inaugurated are in n Barangay Curuan last September 11 with 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian and City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat along with NIA and DA officials as well as Curuan Barangay officials in attendance.

A similar project was also inaugurated and turned over in Manicahan two days later while a third is set to be inaugurated today at Barangay Bunguiao.

The Communal irrigation system are turned over to farmer cooperatives for management are  intended to serve the barangays where they are situated and those adjoining communities as well.

It comes very timely as the weather bureau has officially declared the advent of the El Niño phenomenon where longer periods of hot dry spells are expected.

The Communal irrigation systems will greatly boost productivity as farmers will now be able to plant their crops even if the long dry season is prolonged.

The east coast barangays are supposedly the rich agricultural producing areas of the city.

CIS are being funded by a combination of NIA and DA funds along with counter part funding from the host local government.
