Twenty-two persons were injured in a highway mishap in Barangay Cabaluay yesterday morning.

Sangali Police Station chief Sr. Insp. Noel Lozano disclosed that the highway accident took place around 5:30 a.m.

Initial investigation showed that Alvin Tenido, driver of a passenger jeepney bound for Curuan, was carrying lumber on the way to the city proper when one of the tires blew up.

While changing the flat tire along the roadside, a truck of an aquatic company driven by Arnel Hangga carrying some 60 passengers — all workers of a canning firm — bumped the rear of the jeepney.

Twenty-two passengers of the truck sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment..

Three of them were reported in critical condition. Fifteen were released from the hospital while four others along with the three in critical condition remain under medication.

Both vehicles were impounded at the Sangali Police Station for further investigation while Hangga was placed under police custody. – Dan Toribio Jr.
