A New People’s Army squad leader surrendered to the Army in Zamboanga del Sur yesterday morning.

Roger E. Apog alias Rey or Bajik of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee operating in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Sur surrendered to the 53rd Infantry Battalion of the First (Tabak) Infantry Division  at 6 a.m. in Barangay Kahayagan, Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur with his Garand rifle, ammunition while soldiers were performing peace and development works in the said area.

Lt. Col. Victor C. Tanggawohn, commander of the 53rd IB,  said they expect more NPA guerrillas to surrender in the area soon.

“Our soldiers are now at sitios and barangays doing bayanihan works and they are well appreciated by the community,” said Lt. Col. Tanggawohn.
He congratulated his men for a job well done.

“Congratulations Ka Rey. Your return to the folds of the law is a joy to your family. Your Army only facilitates your safe surrender. Please do not hesitate to help others so they may follow your footstep. Let’s be involved in Bayanihan works to achieve progress in our countryside, said Maj. Gen. Rainer Cruz, commanding general of the Army’s Tabak Division.
