PAGADIAN CITY — Vice President Jejormar Binay emphasized that for the Philippines to be progressive, local governments must be strong and progressive.
Binay, who was guest of honor and speaker during the 60th anniversary celebration of Zamboanga del Sur recently at the Grand Arena, Provincial Government Center, Dao, said “A progressive town is the result of a progressive province and a progressive province will build a strong and progressive country.”

Binay lauded the ZamboSurians for being united.

“Alalahanin nating wala sana tayong ipagmamalaki kung hindi tayo nagkakaisa, at kung hindi namayani sa mga taga-Zamboanga del Sur ang pagkandili sa bawat isa. Iyang pagkakaisa at pagkandili na iyan mula sa ating mga lungsod at lalawigan ang bukal ng lakas ng buong Pilipinas (We should remember that we have nothing to be proud of if we are not united and if unity did not prevail among ZamboSurians. That oneness and unity from our municipaity and province is the source of strength of the entire country),” Binay said.

Binay advised the local government to continue to hasten infrastructure developments and showcase the rich culture and tradition of the province.

The vice president also encouraged local officials to keep on pouring more developments in the province and to establish private and public partnership, saying that the initiative will further strengthen the foundation of sustainable development and change in a locality.
