Two persons were rescued from violent sea between Paseo del Mar and the Zamboanga City port last Sunday morning.

Rescued were Hamina Ibrahim Reyes, 27 and Mang Hassan y Ani, 42, both of Sta. Catalina.

Initial investigation showed that Reyes and Hassan were at the local wharf around 7:30 a.m. when they saw an empty plastic container floating in the water.

Thinking that they can still use it, they jumped into the water and tried to grab it. However, big waves swept them far from the shore.

While they were stranded and floating in the water amid big waves security personnel at Paseo del Mar spottted them and reported it to the Tourist Police
led by Insp. Nelson Belgera.

Policemen and some fishermen aboard a banca helped each other in plucking Reyes and Hassan from the water. They were given first aid. – Dan Toribio Jr.
