Flooding in Sirawai town, Zamboanga del Norte has started to subside, a military official reported on Tuesday.

“The flood waters started to go down by Monday afternoon,” 1st Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Alberto Caber said.

Waist-to-neck deep flood waters were reported in the locality as of Sunday due to the incessant rains since last week.

The flooding affected 4,091 families, of whom 253 were evacuated to the Sirawai municipal hall and “Sangguniang Bayan” building for safety reasons.

Caber said the 1st Infantry Division, the local government unit and relief organizations are providing assistance to the affected families.
