A barangay chairman in Kalawit municipality, Zamboanga del Norte was killed while his companion was wounded in a gun attack in Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay last Tuesday afternoon.

The fatality was identified as Alberto Arabia, 40, married. He was the chairman of Barangay Marcelo in Kalawit, Zamboanga del Norte.
Wounded was Ernie Sumaylo of the same place.

A  police report disclosed that Arabia was driving a motorcycle with Sumaylo as backrider on their way home around 4:40 p.m., when two gunmen opened fire on them at a secluded area in Purok Mangga, Barangay Bangco, Titay.

When the victims fell from the motorcycle, the gunmen took their vehicle, then sped away.

The victims sustained bullet wounds in the body and were taken to a hospital, where Arabia was declared dead on arrival. Sumaylo was in critical condition with bullet wounds in the jaw and right arm.

Police were looking at robbery as the motive behind the gun attack. – Dan Toribio Jr.
