Some 400 families in Barangay Vitali received food assistance from District 2 Rep. Erbie A. Fabian who personally made rounds amidst the devastation of the floods in the city caused by Typhoon “Lawin” this week.

On Wednesday morning, barangay officials, City Social Welfare workers and the parish priest of Vitali Fr. Jonathan Verdejo stood  united in gathering the flood victims from the different “sitios” of  Vitali affected by the floodings in the area towards their parish to line up for the relief assistance  being prepared by Rep. Fabian.

Together with wife Dinggay and the congressional staff, Fabian distributed canned goods, rice, noodles and t-shirts to the residents of Vitali who were badly affected by the floods.

Fabian said that natural calamities come like a thief in the night which arrives beyond expectations, so his office is concerned about the welfare of his constituents in the area who were devastated by the raging waters.

“These immediate food assistance is not even enough to sustain your situation here in Vitali, but my office is doing everything to be of assistance to the affected communities,” Fabian said.

Mostly women and children alike lined up at the altar of Vitali Church where Fabian’s relief distribution was held in coordination with the parish and its barangay council.

Vitali church  was temporarily converted into an evacuation center as the designated evacuation centers of  Vitali Central and National High School were also submerged by floodwaters.

Vitali Barangay Chairman Joselito Alavar thanked Fabian for his  concern to the residents affected by the calamity.

Fr. Jonathan Verdejo also commended Fabian for making possible their request for immediate food assistance to the indigent residents who were housed in the church during the flood. — BhongSimbajon
