Everything is set for this year’s Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, the grandest annual festival in the city in October in celebration of the feast of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

Mayor Celso Lobregat on Wednesday afternoon met with members of the Fiesta Hermosa committee together with top ranking police and military officers and other sectors to finalize preparations to include security measures for the month-long festivity.

Present during the meeting were City Police Office officials headed by OIC Director Chief Supt. James Mejia, representatives from Task Force Zamboanga, City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr., City Tourism Officer Sarita Hernandez, other department heads, barangay officials, tourism police, radio groups and other stakeholders.

The month-long festival will officially kick off on Monday, October 1, with various activities, namely; the Elderly Filipino Week celebration until Oct. 1-7, La Isla de Sta. Cruz until Oct. 1-12, Fiesta Hermosa Job Fair at Plaza del Pilar Oct. 1, and Hersmosura Glamourosa 2012 at Grand Astoria Hotel.

The nightly cultural show and musical extravaganza dubbed as “WOW Zamboanga” will also start on October 1 until Oct. 8 at Paseo del Mar, and Biocare Beauty and Wellness Festival Celebrating the Good Life in Asia’s Latin City from Oct. 1-8.

The pre-festival activities include the 11th Inter-coop Bowling Tournament from September 23 to Oct. 28, Beng Climaco Zumba Marathon “Fit to Fight Winda War vs Violence Against Women and Children tomorrow, Sept. 29, at Paseo del Mar, and the Cooperative Month Celebration on Sunday, September 30.

The city government’s annual trade fair dubbed “Cosechas de Zamboanga,” showcasing the city’s agricultural and fishery products, will unfold from Oct. 1 to 14 at Plaza Pershing.

Other activities in October include the traditional vina sail competition dubbed “Regata,” Chabacano fashion show “Mascota,” the Chabacano Song Festival, dance sport, Wow Sardinas, fishing showdown “Pesca Kita” and many more.-
