Mayor Celso Lobregat Sunday spearheaded the opening of ‘Cosechas de Zamboanga’, an agri-trade fair at the Plaza Pershing, kicking off the celebration of Fiesta Hermosa 2012.

Now on its 9th year, ‘Cosechas de Zamboanga’ is a mainstay during Fiesta Hermosa and is organized by the City Government through the City Agriculturist Office under Diosdado Palacat.

Department of Agriculture-9 Regional Director Edwardo Holoyohoy, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Director Ahadulla Sajili and Palacat joined the mayor during the opening ceremonies which commenced with the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The activity will run from Sunday, September 30 until October 14 from 8am to 7pm. The fair has at least 27 booths operated by different farm groups coming from the 6 agricultural districts of the city.

The participating groups come from the farmers, Rural Improvement Club, 4-H club, private plant nurseries, flower growers, office of the City Veterinarian and egg suppliers among others.

A techno-clinic where farmers and fisher folks can bring up their concerns regarding fisheries, livestock and crops is one new feature in this year’s Cosechas event.

The Cosechas comes with various contests and prizes—the best booth with a prize of P10,000; best delicacy with a prize of P5,000 and best delicacy presentation with a cash prize of P3,000.

Prizes are also at stake for premium quality fruit presentation  and the best garden in the plant and flower show.
