The Police Regional Office-9 has discharged six policemen after they were confirmed to have been using illegal drugs.

The six discharged cops include are one officer and five non-commission officers.

Five other policemen are on case trial for the same offense as drug users.

PRO-9 Director Chief Supt. Napoleon R. Estilles said that all policemen are required by the government to undergo drug test to determine if they are fit to be retained in the service.    Estilles said the discharging of PNP personnel who are not fit to be in the service or those committing wrongdoings is part of the Integrated Transformation Program (ITP) of PNP.

He explained that there is no security of tenure for every  policeman if they committed wrongdoings or crimes.

“Bad eggs or bad policemen should be removed from the service so that they cannot influence other policemen to commit crimes or their wrongdoings in the service will cause trouble to fellow policemen. Bad policemen should be removed from the service so that it will not cause harm to the command and the people,” Estilles stressed.

He added that policemen should serve the people and country with bravery, honor, integrity, loyalty and goodness.

“Policemen who are doing good in the service are given honor and rewarded so that they can becomemodel and be emulated by others,” Estilles said.

He warned policemen against indulging in bad vices because it will only cause harm to their job and their family and most of all to the Philippine National Police as a whole. — Allen Abastillas
